Bobcats Take Third at Tri-River Wrestling Invitational

LEADVILLE, OHIO – The Hobart High wrestling team finished third out of nine schools at Saturday’s Tri-River Invitational hosted by Leadville, with four individual placers and one result still under informal discussion.

Junior Dylan Cottrill won the 157-pound bracket outright, going 4-0 on the day with three pins. Sophomore Marcus Elkins placed second at 138, losing a close final on a late reversal. Two others placed fourth in their respective brackets.

The disputed result involved the 175-pound semifinal, in which Hobart’s Garrett Puckett was ruled to have stepped out of bounds during a pin attempt. Head coach Dale Ferris filed a protest. The protest was reviewed, upheld, and then re-reviewed after Ferris submitted what he described as “a diagram.” The diagram was ruled inadmissible. Puckett finished fourth.

“We wrestled well,” said Coach Ferris. “Third place in this field is something to be proud of. The diagram situation is a separate matter.”

Hobart closes out the regular season next week before the district tournament in March.
