Fire Department Continues Operations with One Engine Following Fall Incident

HOBART, OHIO – The Hobart Volunteer Fire Department confirmed this week that it continues to operate with a single engine following the loss of Engine 2 in a fire last fall.

As previously reported, Engine 2 was damaged beyond repair after catching fire during routine operations. No injuries were reported.

In September, the Department received community support through a public fundraiser, including a bake sale that raised $1,286 toward equipment and recovery costs. Fire officials expressed appreciation for the turnout and ongoing support.

“The response from the community meant a lot,” Fire Chief Paul Givens said. “That support is being put to use where it’s needed.”

According to the Fire Department, the remaining engine remains fully operational. Mutual aid agreements with neighboring departments remain in place, and response coverage continues under established protocols.

No timeline has been announced regarding the acquisition or replacement of a second engine.

Fire officials emphasized that residents should continue to follow standard fire safety practices and report emergencies as usual.

Mutual aid works well in theory, but response time still matters when you’re relying on one engine.

Neighboring departments have been responsive when called. Coverage remains in place.

$1,286 doesn’t go very far for equipment. I hope more fundraising is planned.

I was surprised the bake sale didn’t raise more honestly.

Still seems wild to me that there’s no timeline at all for replacing an engine that burned up on the job.

Dale, replacements take time. It’s not like ordering a new pickup.

I pray for the firefighters every night. They show up for us even when resources are thin.

Appreciation is important, but so is making sure they have what they need.

It’s good to see operations continuing without interruption.. mutual aid agreements exist for these situations.
