Communication Archives Room Temporarily Restricted After After-Hours Access Logged
HOBART, OHIO – The Village of Hobart confirmed this week that access to the Communication Archives Room in the Civic Communications Building has been temporarily restricted following the discovery of multiple after-hours access entries with no corresponding staff sign-in.
The issue was identified during a routine review of access logs conducted after the New Year holiday. The Civic Communications Building, located at 108 Hopewell St., houses municipal communication records as well as the PAL-TV studio.
According to Village officials, no materials are missing and no damage has been reported.
“This appears to be an administrative issue related to outdated or lingering access credentials,” the Village Hall Communications Officer said. “There is no indication of a security breach.”
Staff members reported that lights and legacy audiovisual equipment in the Communication Archives Room had been found powered on on more than one occasion despite no scheduled use.
The Village emphasized that the room remains accessible during normal operating hours for approved staff and production use. The restriction applies only to after-hours access while procedures are reviewed.
Employees have been advised to report any further access irregularities and to avoid remaining alone in the Communication Archives Room after closing hours.
No additional information was provided.
Funny how the “archives room” gets restricted RIGHT AFTER the holidays. That room has been open since before the copier incident and now suddenly it’s sensitive? Sure.
Dale you say this about literally everything that has a door. Sometimes people just go where they aren’t supposed to and that’s it.
Also it was unlocked last year during Possum Fest and nobody cared then.
Is this going to affect the raffle records or are those still “being located.”
If the raffle records were in that room that would explain a lot actually.
I have been saying for YEARS that those rooms should not be accessed without prayer and at least one witness. This town invites trouble.
Birdie the only thing invited is dust and bad lighting. Calm down.
THAT DOOR HAS BEEN OPEN BEFORE AT NIGHT AND I SAW IT MOVE BY ITSELF DONT LET THEM SAY IT WAS A PERSON
Gary, respectfully, doors move when air pressure changes. This was covered after the elevator incident.
Temporary restriction seems reasonable. That room has equipment and records that shouldn’t be handled without supervision. Let’s not jump to conclusions.
“Reasonable” would be notifying people before locking rooms they’ve used for decades. Some of us rely on those records.
Russell, the restriction is temporary pending review. No evidence of damage or theft has been reported at this time.
When I worked at the library we logged every access, day or night. The issue isn’t access, it’s whether anyone bothered to check the book.
yeah and who was checking the book after hours back then eunice because it sure wasnt you
Logging only works if someone enforces it. Otherwise it’s just a notebook.
The church archives have similar rules. Restricted access is not censorship, it is stewardship.
Stewardship is fine but transparency matters. People are already nervous.
I HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF PUBLIC ROOMS BEFORE AND IT NEVER ENDS WELL MARK MY WORDS
Sir this is literally a storage room.
I don’t even know where this room is but every time something gets “temporarily restricted” it stays that way.
