Village Fire Truck Catches Fire During Maintenance

HOBART, OHIO – Hobart’s Engine 2, one of the Village’s two fire trucks, burst into flames last Tuesday morning during routine maintenance, leaving the department temporarily operating with a single vehicle.

The incident occurred at the Hobart Volunteer Fire Department on Hopewell St, where crews were conducting a standard inspection. According to officials, the blaze was contained quickly, though not before heavy damage to the truck’s cab and pump controls. No injuries were reported.

“This was not the kind of fire we train for,” Fire Chief Paul Givens said with a laugh. “But our team responded quickly and professionally. Response times will not be affected, unless it happens twice.”

With the Village now down to a single engine, the Hobart VFD Ladies Auxiliary has announced a Bake Sale and Rummage Auction this Saturday at the Hobart VFW on Canal St. to help raise funds toward replacement costs.

Donations are already rolling in, with items ranging from homemade pies to a full-size taxidermy goat. “It’s in good shape,” said donor Marvin Hendershot. “Doesn’t eat much.”

Council Chair Martha Elkins praised the Auxiliary’s quick organization and encouraged residents to attend. “Hobart pulls together in a crisis,” she said. “And sometimes we even pull together when the crisis involves a goat.”

As of press time, Engine 1 remains fully operational. The Village has also requested mutual-aid support from Guthrie, WV in the event of a major fire.

We don’t have gazebo cameras, Hollis and if we did, we’d point them at you.

Maybe if people supported my raffle we wouldn’t be stuck selling pies.

Back in Dale Sr’s day, fire trucks didn’t just catch fire, they caught RESPECT.

They also leaked all over Hopewell. Shut up, Dale.
