Pit Stop Closed by Village, Health Department
HOBART, OHIO — The Village of Hobart and the Proctor County Health Department have jointly ordered the closure of the Pit Stop convenience store following what officials are calling “a significant public health incident” during Sunday evening’s shift.
Details remain limited, but multiple witnesses reported “chaotic activity” inside the store before authorities arrived. By Monday morning, inspectors had taped a bright orange “Closed by Order of the Health Department” notice to the glass door, alongside a second notice from the Village citing “public safety concerns.”
Owner Dale Bob Jr. briefly addressed reporters outside the shuttered storefront, saying only that “everything’s under review” and that he “appreciates folks’ patience.” He declined to answer further questions.
Several residents expressed frustration. “That’s where we get our coffee, our gas, our scratch-offs, everything,” said longtime customer Brenda Kline. “I don’t know what we’re supposed to do now, drive to Leadville?”
The Village Council has scheduled an emergency meeting this week to discuss next steps. In the meantime, the Pit Stop remains closed until further notice, with no timeline for reopening.
